Hello, Gorgeous!

Relocation

My husband Trevor grew up in Yorkton, and his family is spread across the province. So this is the move our own family talks about at every holiday.

The short answer. Homes cost more here: the Calgary benchmark was $566,700 in September 2026, against $349,800 in Regina and $447,600 in Saskatoon in July. You pay less to close, about $1,000 in Alberta land titles fees on a $500,000 home against about $2,250 in Saskatchewan, and no 6% PST. Home is still a day’s drive.

Hello, Gorgeous! Trevor and I are both prairie kids. He grew up in Yorkton, I grew up in Winnipeg, and what surprised us both about Alberta was the room to build. We are both entrepreneurs, and this is where we got to start from scratch and grow. Trevor is a mortgage broker with Advanced Mortgage, which is handy when you are financing a move. You can meet Trevor here.

Here is what changes when you make the move from Saskatchewan.

Prices, Honestly.

Calgary costs more than Regina or Saskatoon at almost every price point. In September 2026 the CREB benchmark for all home types in Calgary was $566,700. In July 2026 the benchmark was $349,800 in Regina and $447,600 in Saskatoon. Airdrie, half an hour north of Calgary and the first stop on the drive home, closes part of that gap.

What It Costs To Close.

Closing Fees Compared

Saskatchewan land titles transfer and mortgage fees, Alberta land titles fees, 80% mortgage

Price Saskatchewan Alberta
$500,000 $2,250 about $1,000
$700,000 $3,300 about $1,360

ISC land titles fees effective 4 May 2024; Alberta Land Titles fees in place since 20 October 2024. Computed from the official formulas, October 2026.

No provincial sales tax. Saskatchewan adds 6% PST on top of GST. Alberta charges 5% GST only.

Income tax. For 2026 Alberta’s provincial rates run from 8% to 15%, and Saskatchewan’s from 10.5% to 14.5%. Most households pay less provincial income tax here; very high earners should run the numbers with an accountant.

Still Close To Home.

This is the part Saskatchewan families like best. Calgary is about 755 km and roughly eight hours from Regina, and about 610 km and roughly seven hours from Saskatoon. Long weekends at the lake and Christmas at home are still a drive, not a flight.

The Paperwork When You Arrive.
